    sonic 1.4t tuning experience

    i tuned a 2013 sonic turbo this weekend and it went pretty well.. had a couple kinks but i had enough time to fool around with some tables to see what works best.

    got the car spiking 20 holding 19 to red line. it feels prettyy good he picked up some power.

    one thing i noticed is the car likes NVTime better than Clutch in the rpm limits table.. it seemed to no lift shift better. the timing is low and fueling is rich just to make it safe because he still hasn't gotten a wide band yet. and im still working some kinks out and trying to get the idle timing a little smoother.


    just looking to see if you guys have any more input.. it has a few places where it has some knock especially during no lift shifts.. still trying to work that out.

    265kpa (~24psi). wow.. and 4°KR and nothing is letting go?
    I would say the injectors are beyond their limit 96%IDC (they are more than likely static open by then) - so more injector definitely needed. Hard to say as cant see what AFR you are commanding (wasn't logged).

    that 4* knock is during the no lift.. and its not going to log wideband it doesnt have one. and he has a manual boost gauge and it only reads 21 max.

    I mentioned logging Commanded Air Fuel, this is a PID, the ECM would use a AFR command ratio (Tables >> Right click Insert... Fuel System>> Air Fuel Ratio Commanded (Hi Res) and Commanded EQ ratio) nothing to do with a Wide band.

    The knocking i am talking about is while the ETC pedal is being held (e.g. 80% or 67% - frame 6130). And you are utilizing No lift shifting here? why doesn't the rpm show a shift occurring?
    And I thought the No lift shift could only happen when you had 100% ETC petal. (to the floor) ?
    Also, how did you enable the No lift shifting on these ECMs?

    no lift is in the fuel cut off tab left tables almost all the way down. and frames 6130 has no knock?

    frames 9130 has a little part throttle knock in 2 cylinders.. 1.9kr i reduced timing in those areas after that log. the "knock" retard i want to get rid of is in frames 10513. the cylinders show no knock at all but there is still knock retard.. after that no lift he did.. it knocked randomly.

    frames 10822 the knock is bad. thats when i reduced timing after his log. i think its knocking because of the injectors maxing out but i cant be for sure im doing more tuning and logging this coming weekend. i put him back on a stock tune until then.

    Around the 5 min mark?

    I have the cruze 1.4, never knew it had this feature (No lift shift)... set to 125% pedal stock of course.
    I would not rule out the fueling causing this No lift knock for sure... IDC is up there.

    ahh i see which one your looking at.. yeah i was thinking since fueling is maxed its that.. i made a new map for him for this weekend to test out i reduced boost to around 18psi to see if i can clear it up.. he is getting new injectors soon

    correct but what i want to know is it is showing knock retard when there is no knock in the cylinders?

    I am also trying to get to the bottom of this weird KR

    I've noticed that it always occurs near 3k

    I also noticed that my spark table was choppy around that RPM. I've smoothed it out and will go out tomorrow and see if this helps. I'm thinking the ECU is trying to smooth out the spark by changing the KR. This seems to fall in line with the spark advance not jumping when the KR begins and there is a setting in the HPT file for adjusting the spark smoothing.

    Why when I convert 265kpa to pis do I get 38psi??? My log said I peaked at 225kpa and running another scan set to read psi SAE i got 32psi. Thought that seemed unrealistically high and unsafe.

    Now that I look back at my files, I've smoothed out the table after adding in 2 degrees over the entire table. I've since added another 2 degrees and I'm only getting KR when the car is really cold.

    I also have a 2013 Sonic which has less timing than the 2012

    265kPa is 38.4 psia which is roughly 23.7 psig assuming the barometer is 14.7 psia
