    2002 S10 4.3 to 5.7 . P1665

I can't seem to figure this one out. This is a 4.3 vortec swap to 5.7 vortec. Its a completely stock engine using a 2002 Express file from the repository onto a 0411 pcm. Every time I start it up, I get a P1665 which baffles me. According to Alldata, it deals with the fuel level sensor. Other places, it says its the because of the solenoid in the EVAP system. I compared schematics to both platforms and the PCM pin is in the same location on both the S10 and the Express and power is provided via the fuse box in the engine bay.

Here's the kicker. If I open up my stock V6 file, use the drop down menu to change it to v8, I don't get that error code anymore, but the engine runs like poo.

I am not in front of my SI2K right now but believe that is a quad driver fault.
Could be a short or very possible faulty Pcm Quad Driver

But I don't get the same error code if I reflash the PCM with the original V6 file.

I still have to get my SI pc back.
    Search for other diagrams.

What stands out is the diag. for the Express van you posted lists the Evap Vent valve ckt as NC1
NC1 is California Emissions, so with regular emissions it may be wired differently.
Sorry thats I can see at the moment with out my other laptop.

On a 2002 Express, SI says P1665 is for fuel gauge circuit. From the schematic it appears the PCM PWM the ground side of the guage at C2 pin 38. "The PCM sets this DTC if the fuel level signal circuit to the IPC becomes open, shorted to voltage, or shorted to ground." On a 2002 S10, a search for P1665 returns no results, and the gauge info is sent from PCM to cluster via serial data. I suspect you can simply disable the code in the tune.

Thank you guys for taking the time, and your correct Goofee, P1665 is not in the PCM or in the Alldata for the S10. You'd think that with all the similar parts both platforms have, you would think even the wiring system/diagnostics would be the same.

I'll disable it and see what happens.

We are running the identical set-up, aside from my truck being a '98. I've been swapped for a few months now, daily driven. Have only been running the 0411 PCM a few weeks and tuning it the same. I had the same code show up, which confused me. After verifying proper fuel tank pressure sensor operation and vent valve operation, I disabled that code, seems to be working great otherwise.

As an experiment, I went back to the original S10 V6 file, changed the # of cylinders from 6 to 8, then, using the drop down menu, I changed it from 4.3 to 5.7 and using the 5.7 express file, I copied over all the engine parameters, did a write entire and voila. That code no longer pops up, and I got my shift indicator back.

So I guess the idea of having to use an express file with a 0411 pcm is not needed now??

For the last 2days, I have been floating back and forth with the 2002 Express file and the 2002 S10 file. The S10 file runs the engine using the V8 settings, but eventually I get a P-code for high idle and one for the knock sensor.(both are plugged in)

Today, I'm using the Express file out an about running around when I noticed I don't get TCC lock up. Quick scan reveals a P0502 I think. VSS circuit low input. Weird, the MPH works fine. I did notice it shifts kinda hard into 2nd, 3rd not too bad.

Attached VSS circuits for both platforms...

    2WD or 4WD? Spec on Express VSS is 1377–3355 Ω, spec on S10 VSS are 1,377–3,355 Ω (2WD), 976–2,354 Ω (4WD)

I'll be a sumabeeyotch. I never knew there was a difference in vss's.

Yes, I have the 4WD. Any chance I could change something software wise instead of running and getting another sensor?
