    0411 vin change

Right now, my 2002 S10 has the 0411 PCM and I am in the process of swapping out the 4.3 for the 5.7 Vortec. I'm trying to keep this install as "EPA/NY" clean as possible, which means I have to match 2002 5.7 emissions for NY inspection. Now, NY is a PITA, and my PCM vin must match the registration vin before it will pass inspection. Here are my questions...

    1. I need a 2002 Chevrolet Express 5.7 tune?

    2. Once I have the tune, do I simply make whatever changes I need to make and do the vin change at the same time?

    3. Then do a "write entire"?

    4. How many credits will this use? The current 4.3 file is already licensed.

If you use an express 5.7 tune, you can not use your 4.3 Vin as you will get a Vin/Os Mismatch error.

The 2002 model year saw a rare occurrence - GM generally used the same OS for V6 and V8 gasoline engines using a PCM - namely OS12212156. If your S10 used this OS, and the 2002 Express van tune you have did also, then there will not be a VIN / OS error. Your S10 tune / PCM is already licensed, so you would only need to license the Express tune to flash it into your current PCM.

From there you should be able to use your S10 VIN in the PCM, with the Express tune loaded - as you would have licensed both of these tunes.

Would he be able to program in his vehicle VIN to the new tune?

With the tuning software that you generally use - absolutely. HPT should allow this - as he would have properly licensed both tunes, and they share a common OS.

With the software I use yes. Last I looked at adding HPTuners to the mix had some major issues with changing VINs, had to match OS and year?. Since most swaps and transplants don't match YMM to OS it would not work.

He is in better shape as the vehicle is 2002 and new engine and OS is 2002.

    Thank you for the information.

Another question, which pertains to the original.

The drop down menu found on the Engine tab on my 2002 4.3 file shows different engines. What exactly does this drop down menu do?

I opened up my current 4.3 file and on the VCM Enhancements tab, it shows 12212156 and the 2002 Express file I downloaded from the repository also shows 12212156.

So you are saying I can take the 5.7 file, over write the 4.3 file in the PCM and then I can change the VIN?

yes you do a right all to change from 4.3 to 5.7 and another write all to change the vin (you can just retype the vin in calibration details then do a write all that is how I did mine which is an 01 s10 0411 using the 02 express van file for the 5.7)

    Thank you for helping out.

Any thoughts as to what that engine drop down menu is for?

Today I got the minimal wiring connected just to see if I can get this beast to run. I uploaded a 2002 Express file, made some minor tweaks, a flick of the key and holy snikeys.

Your right, it does appear about 300 RPM high. Once I get everything buttoned up, I'll research the RPM. I believe there is a fix for that somewhere.
