    Stupid question about operating systems - I searched but no help

    I hear a lot of talk about operating systems. How do I tell which one I have. Is there a list or is it stamped on the PCM. I read that the E38 operating system has the ability to calibrate fuel economy. I'm suspecting it is a custom OS that has to be written to the PCM but I don't know and am confused.
