Problem with NGK wideband... maybee someone know how to help...

Ok guys i am having an issue with my NGK Powerdex wideband...

I am trying to calibrate (calibrated it MANY times befor)

    The Problem:
The wideband wont show cal- or air so i can calibrate it just sits at 16.00....

Had it sit in "open air" for about an hour went back to calibrate and it was still at 16.00 ... let it sit on over night still at 16.00 .... unplugged sensor and plugged it back in and still same issue.

I have a new sensor on the way, just not sure if it is the sensor. Always had the sensor just quit completely and the WB will show an SEN code.

    ANYONE ever had this issue?????

    5.3, 317 heads, ls6 intake, 02 ZO6 cam, hardened pushrods, PRC dual springs, FMIC, 15* timming, 18psi boost, th400 w/transbrake .... 600rwhp

A sen code means there is an issue (wiring, etc) look in the back of the directions you got with the WB and it will explain what codes it may throw.

When you have power to the box you can turn the knob and it may say Air_ or Air- or Cal. Does any of that show or just 16.00 the ENTIRE TIME?

Is it in actual open air, or installed in exhaust?

I dont have sen code, but I normally get one when sensor is bad thats why I'm thinking it might not be the sensor...

I have tried turning the knob both ways trying to her to the calibration and it wont show, thinking the wb might be bad... Says 16.00 the entire time, out of the car... but reads different afrs while installed.

Ditto what Dave said, if its really in the exhaust then there is a your problem, even if the car has been sitting for awhile, it doesn't matter.

LOL I completely understand hahaha..... Normally easiest to start with the simple stuff, or what "seems" to be common sense when helping someone diagnose on forums.

What type of O2 removal tool are you using? I was using the standard type that looks like a spark plug removal tool with the side cut out for the wire clearance. I think that tool took out my sensor bending the lead every time it was installed and removed. I would suggest a line wrench from now on, if indeed your new sensor fixes the problem

Order a 15401 from autozone... it has a waranty if it takes a dump in a certain time... You may try contacting NGK to send it in to have checked???

I use a 7/8 wrench to remove it (easy access right up top)... wires look good.

What is the difference between the 15401 and a 24302??????? they are both NGK sensors right (one in a bosch box) ? the price difference is big tho...

    NAPA: (dont have autozone)
    24302 $134.10
    15401 $179.10

Those wont be the prices i pay, i get a vary large discount (normally about 40-60% of list price, or at Napa cost due to my coporate discount)

I went with the 24302 sensor since it was listed as the direct replacement for the NGK Powerdex..... it also has a warranty.
