    ls1 in a 99 bmw M3 questions

hey everyone im used to tuning the cobalt ecu but a good friend of mine has put a ls1 in his m3 and wants me to get it drivable,

i just have a couple questions-

1- the ecu that was "supposed" to be a camaro ecu was actualy a 5.3L truck ecu for an automatic, i have zero'd out all of the factors that would deal with the trans part. (i think) and i have uploaded a good base tune from the repository to help me get started. is this ECU fine to use for the motor it is a 99 camaro motor 5.7 full exhaust from the kit he bought, aeromotive fuel rails and adjustable regulator, bbk 81mm throttle body if im not mistaken, custom 4inch intake

2- the car seems to be loading up on fuel when we try to start it, it wont start the first time, it cranks and cranks then we stop then try again and it fires right up.. any ideas?

im posting the tune down below but i really cant get a good log of it yet as something is being weird with my computer it wont log fast at all it is very very choppy im trying to find that out as we speak

    thanks all

You are best to start with a fbody manual trans calibration and tune it from there.

There are many tables that we can't see or change. You need to do a write entire with a manual trans file. Copying differences and writing calibration will not make all the changes. Will the car work the way you did it maybe but you will always be second guessing everytime there is an issue.

I second flame's input. Change the base software, and work from there. There are small changes every year that will cause issues (big or small), and no amount of tuning will make them completely go away. You'll only mask them at best.

and your meaning take another ecu's file and just write entire to the ecu i have? i thought i would have to have a license for the other ecu to do that?

If you look at Calibration Details>Controller Details>PCM/ECM - the segment numbers are all from a 2000 truck with a 5.3L engine and 4L60E transmission.

This tune will not work very well with a manual transmission. Also, if your friend is planning on having the PCM control the E-Fans and A/C - this tune will not work very well.

I realize you have been called in to help at the last minute on this project - but it would be better (i.e. less headaches) in the long run to write an entire Camaro tune from a vehicle originally equipped with a manual transmission.

OS 12212156 from the 2002 model year is generally considered the most user friendly.

Yes you will have to license the file to be able to use it

the fans are all wired to a switch and the ac is no more lol. he isnt going to be racing or doing anything extreme its just going to be a daily driver maybe 5 miles to work and a weekend car meet vehicle. he has driven it approx 100 miles now and i see nothing wrong at all i mean it still needs a few more calibrations. but it drives like a stock car almost

well update on the car a couple months later lol

basically what were dealing with on this car now is it is hard to start.. i sounds like its loading up. and then it will start after trying for a while and it runs well after that.

i put the stock 2002 m6 file on it with a couple modifications because his car obviously wont have all the features a camaro does.

any inpput on fixing start up conditions would be greatly appreciated!!

Is the tune setup for the injectors you're using? It lists an adjustable regulator in your first post so is it vac ref or not?
