Noob tuning 408 in a race car.

    Just build a 408.
    243 PandP
    FAST intake with 102TB
    54-459-11 cam 231/239 .617/.624 +4
    12:1 on 110

It's in an offroad race car. Full manual 4L80 with no in gear/park outputs.

Running SDOL. No O2s, no maf.

Slowly working on some VE by doing 3rd gear pulls up and down my 1/2 mile driveway. I guess I'm getting there all though it's not exactly smooth by any means.

I'm having problems with off idle to anything over 50% throttle. As long as I crack the throttle about 10% then go over 50 100% it'll pull on up but anything over 50% from idle it will just bog down and die. How am I supposed to get a reading to adjust anything? The numbers that are on the VE right now down there are after me just shooting around trying to find something to make it run.

I do have a decently strong idle at 1000 rpm (which is fine that high as I have to run hydraulic pumps to run the full hydraulic steering) with IAC counts at around 70 at idle. Although I'm not totally sure how I got there at this point and not totally sure which idle parameters I even need to be concerned with in SDOL...?

I did do the TPS reset after adjusting the throttle blade open a bit which worked fine....sometimes. Randomly it'll go back to around 1 or 2% open again. Seems if I cycle the ignition and run the throttle blade a time or two it'll reset to zero and run back to idle just fine. Haven't found a reason for it happening though. Thoughts?

I guess if anyone could take a look at this tune to identify anything I have in there that is ridiculous or that I've over-looked I'd appreciate it very much.

Let me know if more information is needed.

    Thanks.

A bit new at this also but will try to help....

I think the ETC area scalar is to high, do a search,
your VE table is too jagged,
since you're in SDOL, copy your high octane spark to your low and smooth a bit,
try using 1.23 in your PE EQ Ratio vs RPM,

I have the same cam in a 408 with LS6 intake and ported LS6 heads. It's hard to get it to behave. LOL
Mine is in SDOL also and runs decent.

    Look at this tune:

    Look at this tune:

Why would you want him to run 11.9 afr when in PE? And why would you want the spark tables to be the same?

Running VCM 1 Bar OS as well. That gives me a true low octane spark table right?

    Oakley,

Took the richest point of a 2003 Z06. (see attached)
Better than ones across the PE EQ table.
Mine are richer in some areas.
But I'm still fairly new and continue to tune my 408.
Only has 2200 on the clock.

In SDOL only lower spark table is referenced?
Both tables seem a bit jagged to me.

I don't understand what you mean about the z06 and eq table. The tune that you attached in your first post has all 1's in the eq table. That is no bueno. The motor needs a lot more fuel when the ect's are cold. put that table back to stock and make all the cells above 150 equal to 1.

I would not trust the MAF is failed, it's suppose to be. I would zero the MAF table & set the "High RPM Disable" to 100 as well.

Just sayin......I've been caught that way more than once.

Don't judge me on my VE. I just went RTT and hit + and - till it was good enough for me to put some heat cycles on my new ring and pinion up and down the road.

Going to the dyno on Tuesday...

You are the one who posted this thread for help. Your VE is disgusting. You need to try Ed's VE before that 408 melts.

That should have read "...me or outcastdon guy?" Sorry.

I haven't had a chance to look at any of these tunes on the computer with HPT on it.

And I've been watching the O2's up and down the road. Sitting right at 14.5-.7 ish through the mild cycling I've put on it. With PE turned off is that not right?
