Quick ? 98' 80E to 03' 80E ?'s

Tried searching, no luck ----

Customer has a 98' 2500 5.7 vortec with a burned up 80E - has a 03' 80E ready to go - will I have to do a segment swap or will it work as is? thanks

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Its my understanding that a segment swap is necessary if going from say a 4L60e to a 4L80e. The 98 computer should be able to control a later model trans if they are both the same trans type. I know with the 4L60e there were differences between an LT and an LS (bellhousing, input shaft).

Will the 03 bolt up to the 98?

Yes it bolts up.... I have a 02' 80E segment - I think I'll compare the two, that should give me what I need.

Only 1997-2000 5.7 Vortec 4L80E trans will work.
