    Rev limiter set too low

Background: 2000 Camaro SS LS1/T56 drop-out purchased on-line back in 2007. Swapped into a 1982 Camaro. The seller tuned out emissions, skip shift, set gear ratio at 4.11 and tire size at 25" per my instructions. The seller also said the rev limiter had to be at 6000 RPMs for the warranty. Well, the warranty part was pretty much moot, as the engine/trans sat for a lot longer than that - got the car running in 2009... . The car has been used both for street and drag racing. The rev limiter cuts in at 6200 RPMs, according to my Equis tach, and does so consistently. I shift at 6000 RPMs (unless I miss a shift... ).

So, cut to 2012. I upped the gears to 4.56, using 26" slicks, bought HP Tuners and reset those values. Problem is on particularly good runs, or when running DOT slicks that are slightly shorter than my full slicks, the RPMs will hit the rev limiter before I reach the finish line (and the track doesn't like it when you do that). I looked and searched HP Tuners for the rev limiter operation, best I could find was fuel cutoff, which was set at 6200. Moving that up to 6800, I figured, would take care of the problem. Not. Still kicks in at 6200.

I've seen similar issues posted here, but nobody seems to know the solution from what I found.

I've attached the original tune file as downloaded when I first read it with HPT, and my attempt at the reset for racing.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm new at this, and I'm stumped.

What speed you hitting when rev cuts in? (just curious) I will look at file and see if I see something.

Have a log of limiter cutting in?

The time slip says 104 mph, which is probably close. With the 4.11 gears, it was doing 106-107 with no rev limiter hits. It is pretty consistent with the 6200 RPMs, whether it's the top of the track, doing the burn out (2nd gear), or 1-2 shift when I don't hit it right, etc.

I haven't logged yet. Need to figure that out. May be able to do that this weekend (only allowed during testing and time trials, not allowed during eliminations).

    Goto fuel > Cutoff, dfco
    Cutoff RPM vs Gear
    Normal
    you have at 6200

    use

    Cutoff 6,850.0 6,850.0 6,850.0 6,850.0 6,200.0 6,200.0 6,200.0 6,200.0 6,200.0 6,200.0
    Resume 6,800.0 6,800.0 6,800.0 6,800.0 6,199.0 6,199.0 6,199.0 6,199.0 6,199.0 6,199.0
    then ETC use 6800

    Okay, that makes sense.

Finally dawned on me that "P/N" means "Park/Neutral"...

Thanks for the help. That should keep me out of trouble.

also under the fuel tab,COT LEAN cruise tab, your cat overtemp protection is enabled you using cats? if not disable.i also like to disable the torque mangement in a drag racing situation torque managemenr tab,Abuse tab and max out the drivtrain abuse RPMs,also traction control system under the general tab and zero out the tables in those two tabs.

I am using cats, but not rear O2 sensors.

I thought torque management and traction control were programmed out. I'll look at those as well. Thanks for the heads up.
