Question Negative VE AFR Error / Positive VE STFT

I have been learning searching and reading for a few years now and have a question on how this can be correct information. Several tuning guides as well as the HPT help files state that tuning VE either via WB or STFT, you take the values from the scanner and copy/paste special/multiply by % or half or quarter for each one of these.

When I log VE AFR Error and it is lean against my commanded, my values in my histogram are negative integers. When I log VE STFT at the same time, my values are positive integers for a lean condition.

How can this be correct information to use the same method for both values?

Attached are one of my configs and a log with histogram 5 for STFT and 7 for AFR Error for examples. Edited and added tune from the car which the logs are from.
