    vcm id =yyyyyyy

ok, so im working on a 2001 camaro ls1, i try to read the ecm all ok, i go to license the file and the vcm id is all yyyy's

from all the searching i see on here the ecm needs to be re-flashed with a tech 2, i am a gm tech so i have my own tech 2, mdi, tis log on.....

i re-program the ecm with tech2, read it again, same thing. i try off board programming with tech 2 and tis, read it out with hpt, same thing. i try different vin numbers and everything programs fine with the tech 2 , vins change fine but the vcm id is still all yyyy's ???

what needs to be done to get a ecm to get a new vcm id#??

i even went and picked up another fresh ecm from the salvage yard and used the tech2 to program it and same thing, the vin's are being programmed fine but still no vcm id #

i have the latest beta, so i even tried another laptop with just version 2.22 loaded on it and same thing.

the problem is the segment containing the serial # info (NVRAM) has been corrupted. tech2 doesn't reprogram this segment directly.

The only way to restore it to something normal is to use a file from another PCM and do a write entire. You can still tune the PCM as is, but you need the year/model license to do it.
