    4t40e vs 4l60e

I was wondering if anyone had any details on if there is much difference in how the 4t40e is controlled compared to a 4l60e. I understand one is RWD and one is FWD but does the computer control them differently?

    Does anyone have any schematics?

I am wondering if it would be possible to swap a 4l60e in the place of a 4t40e to convert an engine setup from FWD to RWD....

Might have to adjust the tune some to get it smooth but do they work in about the same way?

    tia, jake

The 3-2 downshift solenoid in the 4L60 won't be able to be controlled by an ECU that controls the 4T40 trans.

The input shaft speed sensor is used in the pinout of this solenoid for the 4T40. The low signal for the ISS is also in an unused pinout for the 4L60. (Since the 4T40 is FWD it needs the ISS where the 4L60 does not.)

I'm not familiar with the 4L60 enough to know if you really need the 3-2 downshift solenoid.

For me it would be easier to swap a manual trans if you were going all out with a FWD to RWD conversion.

thanks for the reply...sounds like it won't work out. This car will be for my wife so it needs to be an automatic.... if it was for it is would be a manual for sure but alas it is not.

Looks like I will go a different route

If it helps a computer that controlled a 4t65 (FWD) controls a 4l60e RWD and the 3-2 solenoid is as far as i know not working and the car drives ok, no tcc lock is the only complaint. double ckeck the pin outs on the wiring diagram depending year and model harness and computer
