Convert v6 vortec to 5.3

Friend of mine is installing a 5.3 into his s10 and is using a 4.3v6 pcm. We got some bad info (i believe) that said to license the 4.3 file and change every table to the 5.3 values, change it to v8, etc etc.

The truck doesn't start and it seems that the reason is what we attempted to do does not work.

1st, what is the proper way to do what we are attempting to do?

2nd - Is there any way to convert this licensed file to work so we don't have to spend another $100?

have someone with a tech 2 or gm mdi flash it with a 5.3 truck or 5.7 camaro file then use hpt and modify the tune as needed.
