    Deleting Codes

I have turned off all the codes for items I am not using (i.e. trand and emissions) but when I clear the codes they come right back after it runs for a few minutes and the MIL light comes back on. How can I get these out of the PCM. Attached is a copy of the tune in the PCM now.

What DTCs are being set ? You have disabled some, but not all related to emissions equipment - not sure what equipment (if any) you are using in the Chevelle.

You mentioned transmission DTCs. Are you running a manual transmission or older non-computer controlled transmission ? The calibration looks like it was originally a 2003 truck 4.8 L & 4L60.

There are still many transmission DTCs active. A little more information about the vehicle / components would help.

03 4.8, but I am running a 700r4 with a manual valve body. I don't remember the code numbers off the top of my head, but it is setting codes for all the trans pressure sensors and vss. It's throwing codes for fuel tank pressure sensor and purge. Almost every code I have turned off sets after a few minutes of running. I have taken all the wires for this stuff out of the harness so none of them are hooked up. The active DTCs should only be the ones for the engine sensors. AIT, MAF, MAP, upstream 02, temp sensor, oil pressure, crank, cam, gas pedal and throttle body. Pretty basic setup and the engine is running, just need to figure out how to get the tune setup.

I took a quick look at your tune file - many emissions and transmission DTCs are still active. Anything not in use in the vehicle should be set to "3 - No Error Reported".

Attached are some of the DTCs still active from the Engine Diagnostics folder. You will need to go through the Engine Diagnostics folder and Transmission Diagnostics folder, line by line, and set unused items to "3 - No Error Reported".

If at all possible, it is best to use a manual transmission calibration with a setup like yours. Either way a VSS input to the PCM is necessary to achieve the best possible driveability. There are 40 tooth reluctor wheels and VSS sensors readily available for the 700R4 transmission - late models came so equipped.

Thank you for the advice.... very much appreciated.... I now have to figure out how to do that. I am still running the stock speedo in the car so changing to vss is out at the moment. In the older 700r4 cars the speed sensor was in the speedo head itself. I had several vss for 700r4 when I first started using them but tossed them out years ago, long before LS conversion was a thought in my head.

You are welcome. If you are using a cable driven speedometer, and it is reasonably accurate (correct drive / driven speedometer gears for your tires and gearing), then a straight forward way to obtain a VSS signal to the PCM is with an in line pulse generator.

You simply unhook your speedometer cable from the transmission, then attached the pulse generator (will come with a very short piece of speedometer cable) to the transmission speedometer sleeve, then reattach your speedometer cable to the other side of the pulse generator.

These generally have the same type of 2 wire output as the stock VSS.

I've seen those many times, they were used on some older cars with cruise control. Do you know how to change the tune to think it's a manual trans?

With a P59 PCM I believe your options are:
    • to try and use a tune from an automatic, with all the relevant DTCs disabled (as you are attempting)
    • use a tune that was originally from a manual transmission equipped vehicle
    • swap in the transmission calibration and diagnostic segments from an original manual tune file, into your automatic tune file (must use the same OS)
The segment swap can only be done by support.

Trans/Auto shift properties/General/trans type. Set to manual. Then save it. Then click edit/calibration details, and make sure it comes up as a manual trans.

Apparently my version doesn't do that. I go into trans and then shift properties and when I look at General it asks no switch, one switch, two switches, or class 2. So not sure what to do now.

That set of updates is in the latest Beta ...which I'm not using yet. I thought this new option was just for the E38 / E67 controllers - not sure.

If you need the latest Beta version of HPT, email a request to support.

Go to help/about and you'll see the software version.

    PS, I'm using 2.23.517.
