    Bad Tunes

Now that I'm starting to understand more and more about tuning and what some areas of concern are, I have pulled tunes out of both of my cars and compared them to stock tunes just for the heck of it. Both cars were tuned by 2 different shops. I paid top dollar for these tunes at the time and was very understanding when they had the cars for a few days.

My WS6 which is cam only(TR224 112), ls6 intake, all the bolt ons and green tops had only PE adjustments and idle adjustment. The only timing changes were in the idle and low load areas. MAF = stock, No VE adj(I figured with a different cam, intake, and headers the ve would be different), no timing adjustment in the WOT area, and the only change for the injectors was the flow rate. And I wondered why this thing ran better with the lousy custom predator tune it originally had. I figured a dyno tune would be better then a mail order tune not the case here.

The G8 isn't much better. Mods are tvs2300, 1 7/8 lts, rotofab, 160 tstat, ls9 injectors. Set to MAF only(not a biggie but the guy who tuned it told me how much he worked on getting the part throttle af right using efilive; but the ve constants are still the same as stock), really low timing (like 10 degrees at wot), again only change to injector tables was the flow rate, PE set to 10:1, Zero trans tuning(again I was told how long they spent on tuning the trans), pe enable set so low this thing goes into pe at the drop of a hat.

I know its easy to armchair quarterback but shouldnt paying top dollar net top work? Its no surprise that both cars dynoed low for their mods.

I'd like to personally thank everyone on this board who helps guys like me learn to do this the correct way.

You may want to seperate these cars into two posts. Also post the tunes and a log with regular driving and a WOT run. That way people can see whats going on.

The G8 wont see much over 12-14 degrees of timing at WOT anyways if your just running 93 on that 2300 without meth or race gas.

After you make your threads, throw both tunes in here, separately. Name them please. The tunes, not the shops.

Kinda crazy that many "shops" make such big mistakes

Reading through the thread you linked to. Just insane. I am glad i wanted to learn and didnt do the mail order tune.

Nothing wrong with mail order tunes, if they're by a competent individual.

Sad part is, some of those weren't mail order tunes, but "in person" dyno tunes.

Makes me want to get out of the no $$$$ KY and move to a more populated $$$ enriched area. Ever come to KY I'll hook ya up and I'll garauntee you it's cheaper money wise than alot of these BIG name shops! Competition and economy has kept prices down for tuning in my area.

I was banned from LS1GTO.com for calling out a "Great" shop's tunes. Be careful where you complain and make sure to never let the shop find out you are trashing their tune. They don't like it!!

Its kind of a double edged sword because you'd like people to know who the really good guys are and who the sub par guys are but you don't want to bash anybody either. I guess the moral of the story is learn to do it (or at least understand it) yourself and you'll be assured a path to a quality tune.
