    Security light question..

Hey guys, i have a 01 gtp. i bought the car a few weeks ago. i read on line about the cat test the 01 and newer ones do. I wanted to remove my cat so took my 00 computer out and swapped it before i sold the 00 gtp. Every thing was working great. I flashed about 4-5 different tunes now.

Well last night i was looking through the tune on my HPT's. I changed a few fan settings and went to flash it in. All went well till this morning when i went to start it. the security light stayed on and car died after about 3-4 sec of running. I read on an old post on this forum about 'looking' at that Security window area in HPT's, and if you do that it some how changes something. Well I'm pretty sure thats what i did. I remember opening that window to just look at it (i didn't touch or change anything)! i cant find any more info on this "looking at the window then your screwed"...
    will this work

    10. How do I perform a security relearn?

    1. Disconnect battery
    2. Install new computer
    3. Reconnect battery
    4. Put emergency brake on to disable daytime running lights (this step is required!)
    5. Make sure all doors trunk and hood are closed leave driver window down and reach in threw window
    6. Try to start. If it doesn't start, leave the key in the on position for 10 min on 97-03 cars and 15 min for 04 and newer cars. The security light should turn off after this amount of time.
    7. Turn off ignition for 3 seconds
    8. Try and start the car. It probably won't start. Repeat step 5 two more times.
    9. If this doesn't work disconnect battery for 5 seconds and then try and start the car.

If that doesn't work, try this one:

    1. Disconnect battery for 10 sec.
    2. Reconnect battery
    3. Turn key to ON position
    4. Do not try to start vehicle, just quickly click to RUN position to engage security light
    5. Let vehicle sit with key ON for 35 min.
    6. Attempt to crank vehicle. Once vehicle is running, the security light may still be on
    7. If security light is still on, turn key to OFF position for 5 sec.
    8. Turn key to ON position and security light should turn off
    9. Start vehicle and enjoy new PCM
Notes: If your car starts at any time and stays running, you are done. If your car starts and dies, try step 9. If it dies after 2 seconds after you have done these steps, you either have a bad FP resistor or the security setting in your PCM is wrong and it will need an update. Security relearn procedure will not work with the valet key!

You should have no problems from just looking at the settings under the security menu. Whatever is in that window will stay the same whether it is opened or closed 100 times. That's why it's refered to as a window, like a transparency in the software you can see through. Even though you "clicked" on stuff to get there, you didn't change anything. You are just viewing the settings that HPT has read off of your PCM, and as long as you don't change any settings there - no new data will be entered in that area of your PCM while doing a write. You mentioned previously swapping the PCM. A friend of mine had this exact same issue several months after a PCM swap and in his case he had to re-check the wiring laeding to the PCM as it had become loose or something. Just a possibility.

P.S. What exactly do the '01s and up do to test the cats that the other years don't? Same sensors involved? Very curious about this.

    Do that.

iirc, 01 and later command pig rich once per drive cycle and confirm that action by monitoring the O2 signal. once passed, everything goes back to normal. Bypassing the reporting of the DTC won't disable the test so, when the absent sensor doesn't go rich, the test doesn't pass and the loop is held open and pig rich until it does.
    Check before you consider tuning;
Is the MIL on? ANY leaks-vacuum, fluid or exhaust? Clogged filters? Old O2 or dirty MAF sensors? Dirty injectors, PCV or IAC passage? Correct the condition. Change the plugs & oil while you're at it. They need it anyway. Particular system giving you fits? Visually examine the related wiring first.
