The pcm will not automatically switch to a 5.3 tune. You will have to license the 4.3 pcm,get a stock 5.3 tune from the repository, license that file as well and do a wrrite entire. This will eat up 4 credits. Are you using dbw or dbc? I assume its dbc if your working on a 2001 silverado.

Why not just start with a PCM from a junkyard 5.3L around the same year (even up to an '02) that way you only have to license the new PCM with no need for wasted credits?

Or am I missing something here?

Not to bring this back from the dead, but is it possible (for emissions reasons) to change the VIN in the computer? I looked and was unable to find the location in HP tuner to do this. This is specifically for a swap car.....so VIN would not match the vehicle.

Anyone? Is it possible for support to edit this or is it necessary to use EFIlive to have this ability?

I can change VINs in PCMs. I can put in any VIN you want. I've done Miata VINs, Nissan 240 VINs, etc.

Did one yesterday, a C5 auto swap in a C5 Z06, and swapped the VIN.

I also have a VIN/OS mismatch workaround, so you can still use your HPtuners to tune.

edcmat-l1 Question, I have a 94 Impala SS with a FBody PCM (411). The vin is for a 2002 model year which I bought the credits for 2002 Fbodies. Can the VIN be changed to the correct VIN for my car and not effect the MY credits I have?

Yes. But you would have to send me your PCM.

I was really hoping for a solution that I don't have to send out the ECU to someone and pay for this to be done in the future. It would be nice if this were something that could be done in HPTuners. If not, I believe that we will be purchasing EFI Live to be able to have this capability. I really like HPTuners, but at the same time, we have 3 customers right this moment that we are about to start doing swaps that will need to have the VIN match the VIN in the ECU. I know this can be done in EFI Live, but I was hoping to be able to continue to use HPTuners to do these VIN mismatches without having to pay someone $200 every time I need this done. At $200 a pop, this adds up quick and just the three cars will about pay for EFI Live.

Well considering your a large shop why not use "volume of requests" as a reason to ask for a discount from the VIN swap supplier? I'm sure you do this with performance parts and mail order tunes for complicated issues no? I have and I work out of my customers personal garages most of the time...

When you contacted me originally, it was about 1 PCM.

I would definitely do bulk discounts. And the benefit to the shop (Sarg) is if these PCMs are licensed to their HPtuners, they can still use it to tune them.

Nope, none are currently licensed. Just cars we have coming to us (well one is at the shop now, just waiting on payment to get started on all the custom stuff we are getting for him). I just would like to continue to use HPtuners so that I can continue to work through their credit system to work on unlimited licenses, etc. But if it makes more sense to buy EFI live, I will do so. I guess I will contact support directly and see if this is something they can help out with rather than waiting for someone to respond in this thread.
