    PE Tuning

Hey my tuner set my PE table to 1.165 all the way across the board... What do your tables look like and wouldn't that cause soggy WOT down low?? Thanks

1.165 is playing it safe, which isn't a bad thing to do. I command 1.155-1.170 on 'safe' engines that need to last as long as possible because the owner can't afford a break down.

On builds that are pure fun or the owner gives the go-ahead for pure power, I use 1.122-1.131.

    Labels 0 400 800 1,200 1,600 2,000 2,400 2,800 3,200 3,600 4,000 4,400 4,800 5,200 5,600 6,000 6,400 6,800 7,200
    EQ Ratio 1.1221 1.1230 1.1240 1.1250 1.1260 1.1270 1.1279 1.1289 1.1299 1.1309 1.1309 1.1309 1.1309 1.1309 1.1309 1.1309 1.1309 1.1309 1.1309

Keep in mind there's a difference between commanded and actual. This is verified with a WBO2, or a dyno.

Because theoretically an engine is as close to stoich as possible while not in PE so 14.7/1.165= 12.6:1 AFR. Anywhere between 12.3-13AFR makes best power.
This is why dialing in fuel trims is important too.

Hey Mykk. It's been a while from when I talked to you last.. How is the 357 running in your truck? Still got it carbureted?

I just got done taking my carb'd 383 out of my 2003 and putting this LS 408 in. I've never used any tuning software so I'm trying to get the hang of it. I gotta say, I like it a lot more than my 383 but theres nothing better than rolling around with something completely different then the usual.

I do still have the SBC in my truck and it is carbed. I just had to rebuild it's third trans. Now it has a manual shift 4L65 spec with vacuum modulated shift pressure. It's been a learning experience getting that motor dialed in for sure. But right now I've running 11.7 1/4 E.T @ 118mph without spray.

PCM tuning has been alot of fun, and has been providing me with an income in southern Cali. Tuning both carbs and EFI it's interesting to see some of the similarities. Especially in ignition timing ramp rates and curves

Thats a great ET and MPH. Do you have any vids of those runs??

I haven't been able to get my truck to the track yet. Hopefully within the next few months. I gotta say that I love the fact my A/C works flawlessly now. haha Vegas is too much without an optimal A/C system. With the 383 I had the A/C working but it would hiccup and cause the motor to shit if I got above 3200rpm. I hated the Holley 750 I had. Do you like the Demon?

Here is a short vid of the engine compartment.

    I am slowly thinking of a 6.0 build....when I win the lottery.

I do like the demon carbs, I just found the secret to getting them to run right was in the ignition timing and initial/idle timing. By using a vacuum advance on manifold vacuum and all in by 9" vacuum (while engine idles at 12") I was able to get a great idling, reving and streetable induction.

I do not have any vids of the 11.7 run, there is a vid floating around youtube of me running a low 14 (bad traction) and getting spanked by a lightning. Otherwise I have this build video with some driving clips:

Post a vid of the 11 sec run next time your at the track.

The 6.0 build was fun and interesting to see the subtle differences in the gen 1 to gen 3 chevys. Anyways, good luck with the truck.
