Thread: Can't run any smaller than a 3.6 pulley.

Can't run any smaller than a 3.6 pulley.

I don't know how so many members can run a 3.4 and not see any KR with just rockers or a cam and no I/C? Granted I have a GenV.

My mods are L32 GenV, XP cam, PLX WB, TOGs, FWI, 2.5" catback exhaust.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are scans on identical road within hours, the only difference in both scans was the pulley size and reduced timing for the 3.4 as a caution. AFR Wideband shows a 11.6 AFR for both WOT runs.

3.4 scan; 15* of WOT timing and 4* of KR

3.6 scan; 19* of WOT timing and 1* of KR.

I have a Racetronix pump and wiring harness with 63# injectors. But if the wideband says 11.6, that means there's adequate pressure assuming enough fuel is being added, or not?

Lastly, the average boost in the 3.4 and 3.6 scans are 10.1 and 8.3, respectively. I'm just dumbfounded that an extra 2psi with the 3.4 can be so limiting to the amount of timing?

Is this on 93 octane? Throw some e85 in there and you will get rid of that KR.

Also, for gas, try to lower the AFR just a little bit down to 11.2 and see if that helps. I always ran better on gas with the AFR a little richer. You can see in the scan that your range is more like 11.4-11.8. Try to keep the range maxed at 11.5.

Just curious, What coils do you run? We discovered the NA coils will cause some KR...... It seems the S/C and NA files have different Dwell settings (how long power is applied to the coil to create spark) and it seems to cause some issues when running NA coils on a SC tune (MSD coils are NA based as well)

    Thanks.

I'll richen up to 11.2. As far as the coils, not sure if they're the original coils on the car which are L36 coils and if they are the coils have the same mileage on the car which is 310,000 miles. I'm not sure if I got coils with the L32 I installed 2 years ago or not. Maybe it's time to upgrade the coils with L67/L32s.

Just a note, stock AC Delco coils are the same part number for both NA and SC cars..

97 Grand Prix GTP (not going to bother listing mods in detail) 1 messed up 97 PCM with about 30-50% of a 2003 calibration and parts of a few others.

Thanks for all the replies. Made a 1200 mile trip this weekend scanning, modifying, writing to the PCM several times and I got it running a-ok

I'm just going to run the 3.6 pulley Some stats with the scans this weekend.

    Max MAP 180kpa
    Max tq 320 ftlb
    Max MAF 10385 Hz
Max INJ Duty 58% (63# injectors)
    Max WOT timing 18*

WOW with those mods you should easily be a lot lower pulley...

Your at 58% duty cycle on your 65# injectors.....

I will have to check mine since im running e85....

I plan to run a lot smaller pulley than the 3.2 that i have on now just my stock trans disagreed

    FWIW, I'm running a gen3 with a 3.0 pulley on my build: L67, XP, Stg2.5 IC, AR103's @ .050 IIRC

I run an AFR of 11.8 for most of the run with timing reaching 20* at 6400.

With this setup, I run knock free from 1-2 until I hit 3rd then shit starts heating up and I'll get 1-2* of KR. I don't ever go this fast on the street to hit 3rd but running the equivalent of e50 (about half a tank of e85 on top of normal e10) gets rid of all the knock without touching the tune (besides commanding a richer mixture for the alcohol of course)
