do i need a prndl switch?

so i bought headers for my 85 monte with a lq9 and 4l60e, the headers hit the shift lever, brp hotrods tells me i need to change to the short shift shaft, i dont think that would let me use the PRNDL switch? i see i can set it to none? what will this do?

You don't need one. The PCM knows if you are in park or neutral but it can not tell which one, but no big deal. The manifold pressure switch on the valve body actual tells the PCM where the shift valve is at so it knows which gear. Been running without one for a while.
