GM LS3/LS7 card style MAF WOT run

Here is a screen shot of how the card style MAF works in out for our Gen III setups. I do have a screen in my tube about 6 inches in front of the MAF.

I have a Amsoil oil-less air filter to a 4" OD (96 mm ID) tube to the MAF section, connected by silicone couplers, then more tube to a 90* elbow to a 90 mm Holley TB. Pretty much no restriction to speak of, about a 2 kPa drop.

This is a good pass, I had the timing detuned by accident and also some timing being pulled from a prior tune I was using after I replaced the trans, oops, lost a bunch of timing, I usually run 30* in this thing. 11.7 @ 114 with a DA of 2500.

It shows how smooth the MAF Hz can read, it used to bounce a lot, very jagged, before the screen.

Ive been tossing the same idea around for a while. I have the MAF and a Halltech housing just sitting around.

Are the pins the same on the older MAF and the new card style? Or do you have to swap some wires? I had to swap them around when I was tinkering with the Lingenfelter 100mm MAF.

You need to swap a couple, not a big deal.

I used this as a guide. My harness is from a 2002 truck.

GM makes a small aluminum boss you can screw or weld to your tube and the card style MAF slides through and screws into. I can't find the pic and part number. It comes in their LS3 stand-alone harness and PCM kit. A dealer should be able to find the PN.

    The screen is from http://saxonpc.com/.

Ive got the info on the weld on piece, I was wondering how you attached the screen, and your link does work either

    Their site must be down.

I put a film of two part epoxy on the outside of the screen and then slid it into my aluminum tube. It can't move. The screen is about 1/2 in. thick.

I just picked the screen up. I'll let ya know how it goes. :-) Now I need to find a medium viscosity epoxy.

Is the screen made of aluminum? I am wondering if I will need one (will find out soon). If its a tight fit I figure it could just slide in and stay.

I glued it in with JB Weld and haven't looked back. I'd be very hesitant to let it just sit in there. It did make the MAF more stable especially at low load/rpm.

I am doing a custom CAI for my LS7 and want to add a card style 100 MM maf to it.

Just ordered a couple of straighteners.
    Thanks for the link

What are the recommended changes to perform in the tune when running one of these? What are the improvements to be expected over a factory modular MAF?

You will have to recalibrate your MAF by modifying the table (airflow vrs freq.)
Bigger inlet duct diameter= less restriction at wot = more air into an engine
I am actually fighting a 5kpa pressure drop at WOT.
You can also flow and measure greater amounts of air.
