Hope this is the correct place for this question.
I am curious. What is really happening when I turn off the EGR on my LLY Duramax diesel? Is the ECM still running the EGR confidence checks? Is the EGR turned off for all conditions? If the ECM knows the EGR is commanded off do I still have to disable all the EGR DTC's.

You should ask in the diesel section, more likely to get an answer. I'm curious too.

i had one do some very strange things from just turning the egr switch off, it hardly ran and lots of smoke,, i turned the switch back on and all was fine??
