Wiring question: LC-1

I am going to be wiring in a LC-1 into my car and I have a gauge aswell as I want to log with it occansionly, it is new but I am assuming it is one of the older units because it has the green analog ground wire. My question is if I ground the Blue and white wires together like the LC-1 instructions say to do and then run the green wire to the HP tuners box to the ground port, the brown wire to the HP tuner box analog port, and the re-calibrated yellow wire to the gauge will the gauge work properly if I do not have the HP tuners box connected but leave the green wire connected to it? Or would I need to ground the green wire everytime I am not using HP tuners? Sorry for the long post, and newb question and thanks for the help!

I think I found the answer on another forum, I will know when I get the car back together.
