Thread: Locked Tunes ?

  1. #1

    Locked Tunes ?

I am looking into purchasing the HPT, but
I am curious to know that if you have a
PCM that has been tuned and possibly locked,
is that PCM useless and have to get a new one ?

I have read all over this forum and can't seem to
find the answer I am looking for. Any help ?
I did find this on the HPT site:
"Security. Protect your tunes with Tunerlock. Only you have the ability to read and write to VCM/PCM's that you have Tunerlocked. Prevent unwanted access to your hard work."

Does this mean a locked PCM is useless to me ?

Thanks way in advance for any help here !

I have never locked a tune but I think the whole point of it is so only the person who locked it can unlock it. can you get the person that locked it to unlock it ? maybe they dont want their work seen and would flash it back to stock & unlock it ?

You can take a locked PCM and write over it, you just can't read the locked file.

You can't write over a locked pcm, not even a tech 2 can.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Yeah theres a few people that offer this service, Frost, obviously Chris who just posted, Alvin might and there are others I'm sure, there are a couple of ways to unlock them either by using a seed/key cracking program which can take days or by pulling the flash chip off of the pcm and reprogramming it.

    Thanks Bill!

I can unlock them through the hardware and have them turned around next-day.

Send me a PM or use the contact form on my site if you would like more details.

That's what I meant, just didn't know how it was done exactly. Sorry for the confusion...

From my understanding fords cannot be tunerlocked.

    why lock?

    Why lock it? Security...

Then not be able to change it again without intervention.

its locked to the interface, and can be unlocked by the locking interface, if you have a real good relationship with the tuner he might leave the modded tune in there but more than usual they will unlock it and flash it back to std for you.
Most work shops dont wont to give away all their knowledge they have put into tuning and in other cases its to stop other people from messing with their tunes.
Give it a go yourself first, if it doesnt work out then pay someone.
