    Turbo..MAF OR SD!?!!?!?(experienced users)

I read so many damn opinions on this subject going back and fourth that it makes me dizzy. Can I get some opinions from some of the pros on what I should do? I plan on making 850whp to 1000 MAX.(boost will be down around the 650-700 area 99% of the time unless im at the track or dyno. My choices are pretty much going with an LS7 maf in my 4" intake piping or going SD. Can someone point me in the right direction of which I should go with? Pros/Cons..I know this is a beat to death subject but im looking for answers(not opinions) from the "super tuners" only. Thanks.

Ideally you'll use both properly in a completely retuned STOCK OS. I'm sitting in a dyno shop right now tuning a built LS7 twin turbo on race fuel using the factory operating system. I'm sure it'll make "ok" power this way...

You just have to take the time to tune each air model independently and correctly.

If you are MAF limited (pre 2008) you either have to scale the calibration to get more range or ditch the MAF and tune SD. If you go SD I would grab a ZR1 map sensor and tune way.

You are always better off if you can use the MAF/SD combo but certain engine factors, like aggressive cam overlap, will determine this route.

Nice Greg.......I'm sitting next to you making calibration changes on that car and your on the internet! LOL!!

and since your using a e40 ecm (out of a gto, if i remember correctly) you are going to have to scale anyway to properly input parameters for the injectors...

so you would be able to double your maf airflow limit...

let me know if you need a hand with anything im nearby in southern ct.

Heres the setup for my 350z:

    stock cubed 364
    317 heads
    228/228 .588/.588 @114
    PT88 turbo
    twin 38mm WGs
    magnafuel external 4301 pump
    80lbs injectors.
....I want to make between 650-850whp for now with room to grow in the future. I figure ill run 7.5 to 15psi on the street(Eboost2 using boost by gear with 7.5lbs springs in the wastegates) most of the time. And I get SO MANY DIFFERENT OPINIONS..some saying absolutely go MAF and others the opposite. I think im going to buy gregs CD and learn all this on my own haha. When the car had the stock v6/37r turbo I had a haltech standalone and I learned all about it (except how to work with the timing) and the car ran all summer on my own tune beating the crap out of it with 11.4 afr across the board and perfect startup. This program is MUCH less user friendly haha.

DO you guys recommend keeping the LS2 MAF or going to an LS7 in tube?

I'm assuming this is an e40 ecm like the 2005-2007 c6's?

Ditch the MAF especially if its a race car! the SD will have more potentional than MAF.

Plus in the E40 PCM, MAF is limited to around 12200HZ and 512 g/sec unlike the E38 PCM have 15000HZ and 1024 g/sec.

your still gonna have fueling issues as the max IFR rate is 63.5. The 2008+ E38 ls3 and zr-1 have 127 IFR.

if your stuck with the e40 ecm, i would still suggest goind SD and taking care of the fueling by another way. Maybe an external sensor or something.

I'm sure howard can give you more feedback regarding this.

Well the 06+ have the 58x crank sensor..my engine is the 2005 and has the 24x..so I think im stuck with the e40...

ls7 maf (or powrmaf, halltech, etc) in 4" tube, 2 bar map, e40 scaled 50% will give you
up to 1024g/s on the maf
127 lb/h limit for the injectors
extended timing control, up to 2.72 g/cyl

one problem you may run into with the maf and the turbo setup is some turbulent airflow. if that becomes too much of an issue, only then I would say ditch the maf. but give it a shot.

oh, and make sure to get injectors that correct calibration data is available for...

its 11 credits for the 2.5 upgrade? Wow...talk about a waste of money. 600+ for a cable then another 500$ needed in credits..

All custom OS upgrades are 2 credits per vehicle, the only thing more will be if your purchasing unlimited custom OS's then that will be more credits.
Give it a go yourself first, if it doesnt work out then pay someone.

    You're reading/understanding it wrong.

    2 credits to lisence PCM

2 credits for custom OS for said PCM

    Total 4 credits.

You need to apply the custom OS to your file, save it as another filename, then do a write entire to apply the OS upgrade. You will be prompted to apply the two credits at that point.

Lingenfelter sells a converter for 58x to 24x. I'm not sure if you can reverse it tho..

    http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merc...gory_Code=C163

This allows 58x engine to 24x pcm. Or you can just get a new crank.

No I plan on reusing the stock crank in the rebuilt. No sense going with a forged crank to make 850whp when the stock crank has been proven past 1000hp.
