Yup. Same power train. Nothing different but aesthetics (SS hood/SS wing/ect.).

The shocks and rims and tires were different too. But, engine wise, they are the same.

There was a difference in the Horsepower/Torque where the Z28 was rated at 305/335 and the SS rated at 320/345. From what I remember, I believe the SS added Ram-Air (oh no, not another Vararam war ) induction.

I would think the tunes would be different, but that is just my opinion. Did anyone checkout the Tune Repository?

UPDATE -- Checked repository and they seem exactly the same. Only one marked SS but checked several unmarked and assumed them to be Z28.........

Same tunes. The supposed HP increase was a lie anyway. Well, if you want to count "ram air" that really wasn't ram air.

Yeah the reported HP was untrue. My stock 99 Z28 put down 295 rwhp which means that i made over 320 hp at the crank.

LOL, yeah if the air has to make a 360* turn, I dont think that it qualifies

IIRC, they were rated the same except for the special SLP cars that got a factory SLP catback. I believe they were rated for 345hp.
