Fans come on when truck is still cold??

Please help, I just wired my fans into the PCM on my 2000 Silverado. I do not have fan 2 hooked up yet (pin 33) so ignore those high settings, but I do have fan 1 (pin 42) hooked up.

They came on and off properly when commanded through VCM scanner the other day, but I popped my hood before I left my friends house today, and they were running when the coolant was only 150. A/C and recirc were totally turned off (I never use them anyway, I just roll the windows down).

I'm new to the fans, so it's probably something simple. Go easy on me.

BTW, what's the difference between "aux fans" and "two fans?"

Take a look at the settings from an 05 or later truck. Those should be correct for your application.

I copied the settings exactly (except for the temp because of my modded t-stat) and the fans come on a few seconds after I start the truck.

I drove a couple miles, and they went off 3 times, but only for a couple of seconds each.

I got some gas and then took this log. You can see that the coolant isn't even close to my 190 on/185 off limits.

I will post the log w/ fan status bits.

    Wow, this board is dead.

Anyway, I did some logging, and regardless of if the temperature is below the turn-on point, the fans always run until I speed up to 55, then if I slow down to 50, they come back on.

These are nice intervals of 5, so I'm guessing they are in the tune somewhere. I do not see these numbers anywhere in the tune, so where could they have come from?

Forward this to support along with your stock & modded file. Might be a setting that is missing or possibly deemed not necessary.

I don't know what the problem is, but I've seen it before. A long time ago. Its apparently an os issue as the truck I had do this was an 00 as well. Apparently a bug gm didn't know was there since the trucks never used e-fans back then. I always figured a different year os would fix it since none of the other trucks I've put fans on have done this. No matter what you make the fan settings, the fans are always on. But you can command the fan off in the vcm controls.

Setting wise I was doing this before hpt added settings for a/c pressure and such. With trying every setting availible in efilive or cats, you still get fans on all the time.

Thanks for the info. The "fan on mph" and "fan off mph" settings are probably set up in the PCM different on the early trucks (99-02?). Maybe the HPTuners tech guys can look into it if they get bored.

Bluecat, have you made them work properly on 01 or 02 trucks?

Bill, could you look into this when have time?

Or has the Fan 1 Enable Speed bug (99-02 a/c recirc pin conversions only) already been addressed for a future update?

This seems to be an elusive topic. Multiple threads with many dead ends.

Yes, I found about 10 nearly identical threads via search and not one of them has a resolution.

My problem now solved. Make sure PO532 and 533 are set to "no error reported. Mine were just set to "no MIL."
