Arrow A6 Shift Times**Could use some help**

    Guys,

I am just wondering if you could post your experiences with what worked for improving the shift times.

I have 256 gears and just notice that my 1st - 2nd shift is taking .500 to complete while drag racing. Was really hoping i could improve that.

Last year i was cutting down shift times by .0100 but after viewing my logs it appears that was not working.

Any information/help would be great and maybe we can get everyone on the right track.

    Thanks for looking,

    Tony B.

Yeah, I thought the same until i checked out how long 1st is taking to complete the shift. There is no need for me to post my tune as it will only show my shift times reduced by .0100 from the stock shift times.

Now instead of wasting everyones time saying yours shifts GREAT, how about you tell us how and why yours shift so GREAT.

    Tony,

The A6 is a very complicated trans. There are so many tables to calibrate that its tough to just throw ideas out there. Many of the tables lean onto each other so there is alot to work to do to do it right. You can also fry the trans real easily if you don't watch what you are doing. Especially when drag racing.

I have done a few with 3.42 gears and it took quite some time to hit every required table. Just be careful of the advise you might get.

    Tony,

Hope our conversation cleared up some stuff. I am going to look through your current file you sent me tonight.

The A6 does alot of torque based look ups to calculate the shift patterns and shift points. Adjusting the shift times is only a small part of correcting GM's lazy tune.

Adding a converter complicates it even more so "mail order" type tuning process's just pisses everyone off. Since the PCM is controlling something mechanical (clutches, pistons, servos, etc..) there is often delays in what you command which requires some creative "adjustments". This is why mailing tunes is not something we do.

I wish the aftermarket would start making some improved internal parts for the A6..

Most like why nobody has responded is because nobody knows anything about these trannys. LOLl! I sure don't but would like to have some better shifting myself.

LOL!!! You would think after all this time that we all would at least have some idea how to make our tranny shift faster with this program.

If you simply disable TM you are pretty good without having to do anything else.

Have heard that before, and tried it. Seemed to be a step backwards.

Are you referring to Torque Reduction - Upshift (Disabled) only, or TR for Upshift, CT Downshift, Power Downshift & Garage as well?

    Thx!

That has been done. Doesn`t help the 1st - 2nd shift.

Its too bad that outta all these DIY tuners and Pro tuners no one can lend a hand.

If its something of cost$$$, pm me and discuss.

I would also like to say that Howard from Redline is looking into it for me, but that doesn`t mean i am not open to all suggestions. So anyone that feels that they have perfected the A6 trans feel free to contact me via pm.

    Thanks,

    Tony B.

Little more info - I changed my TM upshipft to disable and in addition under Stall Torque Mgt changed Enable and Disable rpm to 8192 rpm then under TCC limit Max Torque reduction to 6042 ft lb. This made my 1-2 at least seem fast as well as other gears. Had to change it back due to wheel spin at shift with radials. My log showed zero timing reduction at shift.

My timing reduction at shift is due from my timing tables. If my car shifts from 6850 in 1st to 5200 in 2nd my commanded timing starts with what I have in that cal.air. I have all TM removed and i am getting NO timing pull during shifts EXCEPT for the differece I have in timing from 6850-5200rpms on the shift.

I have plenty of logs and the only drop in timing is on the line at launch and thats due to cal.air. For example, if i am stalling my car up to 1750rpms and while holding the pedal my cal.air reading is only say .24 well at .24cal.air my timing is at 33 degrees, well when i stab the gas pedal as the motor winds up its getting more cal.air and scrolling down the timing tables to say .68cal.air, well at cal.air of .68 my timing is setup different and is lower than at cal.air of .24.....Hope this makes sense, if not pm me anytime and i will try and explain better.
