I try not to either. The problem is high load/low rpm. I have to stab the throttle even with doing 2nd gear pulls. I will try some 3rd gear ones to see if it helps or hook up the travel trailer.
Still, does anyone know what controls transients when running VE only?
Great! Any idea when? Days, Weeks, Months, Years?

Hey Bill, I know you guys are working hard to put this into your software because I saw you had posted that up before. I appreciate y'alls efforts. My question was when is it going to be available?

Say it with me, folks: "Load bearing dyno"
Fuel to wall impact/evap factors, but only after you've got the right steady state data in the VE surfaces. If you fudged the VE surface (either real table or virtual result from coefficients), then you're going to have a hard time nailing the transients.Still, does anyone know what controls transients when running VE only?
I know, I am saving my money to take your class instead.
Ah, that's what the Transient tab is for! Makes sense now.
Is there a difference between the use of these tables if in MAF, SD, or MAF&SD mode? Worth taking the time to figure out what to change if FTs are 7-8%?

How long did it take for you guys to get to this point????

Mike- The next version of HPT will have vitrual VE table tuning built-in. It'll be a bit easier then. Still, you have to set up the tune. Here's some notes I've collected from reading other posts here, and from several books I've read.
To tune VE:
1. Disable things that change AFR.
a. Set Engine.Fuel Conttol.Fuel Cutoff.DFCO Enable Temp to 493.
b. Set Engine.Fuel Conttol.Fuel Cutoff.CFCO Enable VSS to 318.
c. Set Engine.Fuel Control.Power Enrich.PE Enable.MAP to 256.
d. Set Engine.Fuel Control.COT.COT to Disable.
e. Set Engine.Fuel Control.Transient.Transient Fuel Qualifications.Transient Fuel to Disable.
2. Turn off the MAF.
a. Set Engine.Airflow.Dynamic Airflow.High RPM Disable to 8192, set Low to 8000.
b. Set Engine Diag.Airflow.MAF Sensor.MAF Fail High to 0.
3. Make the Spark tables the same.
a. Copy Engine.Spark Control.Spark Advance.Main Spark Advance.High Octane to Low Octane.
4. Prepare the VE table for editing
a. Copy Engine.Airflow.Speed Density tables to EQ_VE program. Save as Equation_in_xxx.
b. Generate a table, save it as Equation_out_xxx and copy it.
c. Open a C6 2005 stock tune and open Engine.Airflow.Dynamic Airflow.Main VE and paste the table.
5. Setup the scanner.
a. Log Manifold Absolute Pressure, Engine Speed and AFR Error.
b. Create a histogram
- Name: VE - Air Fuel Ratio Error
- Plot Value: Sensor: Air Fuel Ratio Error
- X Header, Sensor: Manifold Absolute Pressure,
Labels: 15,21,26,32,38,43,49,54,60,66,71,77,83,88,94,99,10 5
Units: kPa
- Y Header, Sensor: Engine Speed
Labels: 400,800,1200,1600,2000,2400,2800,3200,3600,4000,44 00,4800,5200,5800,6200,6800
Units: rpm
6. Start driving. Drive around to warm up the engine before beginning. Watch the coolant temp,
oil temp and valve temp. When they're stable, proceed.
7. Build a VE correction table.
a. Have the VCM controls open and start the log file. Immediately select
- Closed Loop: Off
- Fuel Trim: Off
- Click Reset Fuel Trims
b. Select the histogram and start driving around.
- Use only slow throttle movements
- Don't blip the throttle
- Fill the cells evenly
You'll spend most of your time getting a good consistent reading in the lower cells. A few WOT runs to get some some of the higher end cells populated will provide enough data to interpolate the rest.
Of course, if you have access to a load-bearing dyno the problem goes away.
ok , wile am tuning the VE do i need to turn the maf off .
