Thread: NGK maxing at 15.73

    NGK maxing at 15.73

I hooked up my NGK wideband and noticed the max it will read in the scanner is 15.73-15.75. The NGK LCD gauge will read 16.0 max (range is supposed to be 9-16). Though it does read 9I can't look at the default PID to see if it's the formula or not. Has anyone else had this problem. I'll make a custom PID to see if it makes a difference.

It should go all the way to 16.00 (lambda=1.10) if your grounds are good. Doublecheck your wiring and try a custom PID to verify. Remember that NGK/ECM consider 14.56:1 to be lambda=1.00. I just configure my widebands to show lambda anyway since it makes part throttle tuning so much easier.

I tried a custom PID and it was the same. I have my black power wires ground ed to my chassis and my analog grounded to my EIO. Should I ground the analog to the same location instead of the EIO? I guess there could be a voltage offset the way it's hooked up now.

Here is the formula for my custom PID for my NGK, it works.

    [PID.2811]/0.7143+9

I'm not sure what the PID.2811 is..are you going through the EGR? But my PID is basically the same = Volts/0.7143+9.
The custom PID does the same as the default NGK PID. I have my ground and analog out wired into my HP Pro interface. I'm going to log raw voltage next to see what it reads.

Ditto, my NGK is maxed at exactly 15.73 (4.81 volts). There is nothing wrong with the ground.

My NGK also shows this max using the default NGK PID. I have not tried a custom one yet. I am however still showing a .06~.07 a/f difference from the guage display to the scanner.

My memory is bad, but I recall in one of my electronics physics classes at uni that IC logic 5v is not actually 5v, more like 4.77v. Thus, max. you can read on the scanner is 15.68AFR

Nice pick up. It's happening to me too. I never noticed this before. If its only happening at 5 volts im ok with it but are we off .3 @ 4 volts as well?
