Tried to scan/tune a friends car that I have had no issues with before.

Scanned fine, then went to update the tune.
By clicking the write cal button in the vcm editor

Then with the scanner I would get invalid cable.

Does it give you the unhandled exception every time or is there a specific set of events that you must do to get the unhandled exception?

According to my customer page 2.22 is the latest and my software version is: VCM Editor 2.22.3043.745

Which you like me to redownload this file and reinstall?

It shows here you are using 2.1.16.0. Maybe try uninstalling it completely and installing it fresh. HTH!
