I have the book and I have to agree with you. It's a good start but just hasn't be finished. And it does not solve this problem either: http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32595

I'm almost positive its built into the controller and a safety thing.

I've read through this whole thread, and I definitely apreciate all the helpful info! One question regarding all the pressure adjustments though...
I read several posts of people raising oncoming pressure presets, base shift pressures, etc, but havent seen any posts on raising the Maximum Line Pressures or the Maximum clutch pressure?
The A6 Camaro I'm "learning on" has the oem max line pressure set to 109.9psi, max line pressure B set at 275.6 and max clutch pressure at 217.6. If those of you that are raising your various pressure settings for 1-2 and 2-3 shifts etc to 200psi, wouldn't the main pressure need to be increased as well?

I've tried a few logs with increasing several different settings without getting into anything I wasnt sure what the function was, and have a good shift feel and higer, more consistant shift/downshift points, but I did raise the line pressures and clutch pressures to 175, 295, and 275 respectively. I did notice the flare everyone is talking about yesterday while doing some logs, so I'm setting everything back to stock and starting from scratch using some advise found in this thread.

Does anyone know if there is a relatively safe maximum for running the line pressures, regardless if they are regulated elsewhere down the line?

The car is cammed with DOD/VVT delete, and seems to be running good but with a fair ammount more power than stock. After reading this I confirmed my suspisions that I need to go back to stock and start with a more methodical approach. I don't really need to go nuts with this one, but firmer shifts with slightly raise and consistant shift rpms is the goal. It's an elderly driven car and probably wont ever see the strip, but grandpa and grandma have lead feet for sure!
