RAF vs. IAC vs. Idle Spark

Okay, I have Russ' Idle Config. downloaded. Did that a few months ago. My question is: how do you get all three in line? I would imagine that each one would affect the others. Which do you do first? If I had to guess, I would say: get the IAC down where it needs to be, get the idle spark set a little less than most vacuum, then run the airflow config. to get that squared away. Is this correct? Thanks for any help.

get your idle right then give it the airflow the car needs. If the IAC is still high, adjust that and then redo the idle airflow.

Regarding the IAC, what do you consider "high" and how do I modify how my IAC is acting? Remember in my other thread, my IAC was at 185 on cold starts.

I do not like to see the IAC much higher than around 60-70 when hot, but normally shoot for 30-50.

Okay, thanks. Got another question for you, how do you know when fueling is correct at idle. Not suppose to use the wideband, so what's the best method?

Not suppose to use the wideband? You need the WB to dial in your fueling.

I think he's playing off the fact that people say the "wideband is never accurate at idle" which is untrue from my findings. When I'm idling my wideband is reading 14.3 to 15.0 which averages to about 14.6 which is right on the money.

However, sometimes idle readings on the wideband ARE incorrect, but not always.

unless you have one of those $10,000 units, the wideband is the best you can get, which it is not bad at all. As long as the car is not running like crap, the numbers should be good.

Okay, then that helps out a whole bunch then. Another question, when I'm trying to find the sweet spot with the spark at idle in the controls; I get surge in the idle. Even on the setting that it is idling smooth at before clicking on the absolute spark. What is the cause of that? I'm trying to learn and there is a lot to take in, so be gentle!
