How does the PCM determin a misfire?

What does the computer scan to determin if a cylinder is misfiring?

Time between cylinder firings. If the misfire timer is exceeded between engine cylinder firings, then (basically) a misfire is detected.

This is all based off the crank reluctor as the PCM is monitoring the time between crank reluctor pulses to determine RPM, misfire, etc...

but what is determined as a misfire? Does the pcm monitor the coils, the cylinder stroke that isnt even from the crank reluctor?

Im still trying to trace down a strange misfire that shows for absolutely no reason.

Grab the misfire.cfg config in the GenIII stickies. Log some data showing the misfires in process, post your tune here in this thread and I'll walk you through it.
