CAN bus question on new pcm's

i'm looking to rewrite a 99 gp pcm program to a newer pcm that has CAN bus access so i can use a msd dash hawk in a kit car. can someone enlighten me on the differences in the pcm's or if this can be done? i believe the pin out is 6 and 14 and is only used on some of the newer pcm's. thanks. hope this makes sense.

    Probably not compatible.

so i can't write the 99 pcm parameters to a newer pcm and then use the newer pcm to run the engine? i just want to make sure i'm reading this right. the engine is v6 3800sc from 05 park avenue and uses the barest of sensors hooked up to manual transmission. thanks.

you mention the engine is an 05 park ave motor, but what computer are you trying to flash with this 99 file?

it would be any newer pcm with the CAN bus that is supported by hptuners such as pontiac gp for instance.

problem you'll find is 98-02 v6 computers are similar if not identical, but the 03+ are different so flashing them with an earlier operating system would not be advisable & more than likely would fry the pcm.
