    6L80 factory tune

New to the whole tuning thing especially with the hptuner, installed a new rebuilt transmission from a company called "Whatever It Takes" and bought the tuner from them knowing I was going to have to program the TCM.
so got everything set up for the tuner and then plugged it into the truck, then read the vehicle, afterwards we went to where it said to write the program and the only things it will allow me to reprogram is the ecm and some kind of ccm thing but nothing for a tcm. So my question is does this already have a program done in it or do i need to find some tune and install that? Thanks Mike

    Vehicle is a 2015 GMC Sierra 5.3 4wd

You can't write the truck's stock file back to it if the only file you have is one that was made after the old trans was gone. You'd need to have read it out while the old trans was still in it.

Thanks for the quick response, If i had known thats how it worked i would have done that, but there is no instructions anywhere that states you have to do that. Someone should make a tutorial on how to properly set it up and what to do for idiots and newbies like me. So i take it that it will need to go to the dealer to have programmed then?

OK good. Then either take the TEHCM out of it and plug it in the vehicle harness or hoist the transmsision up if possible to get it close enough to reach so that you can connected the vehicle harness to it. Then you can read and save it, so that you can then input it back into your replacement transmission.

So i lifted the transmission up and connected the harness to the old transmission and had it read then i saved the info at the end, but when i connected the harness back to the new transmission and loaded the tune there still is no spot to tune the tcm it just has the ecm and a ccm listed to be programmed but nothing as far as the transmission goes. Did i do something wrong?

Is there a possibility that the place that I got it from put a factory tune in it since they ran it and checked all the pressures and made sure the converter locked up before we got it here and it was already full of fluid and all to

I would call WIT at this point, they will assist you. I am not familiar enough with the procedure to transfer the programing in their unit to know why there is no way to load what you saved from the original back in the new one.

If the replacement TCM is new-new and has never had any kind of flash before, HPT won't detect it. If it's a reman and still has some old file in it, or has a generic placeholder calibration, then HPT will detect it and write-entire it as normal. Some bootloader or something is missing on some of the new-new TCMs, only GM SPS can initialize them for the first flash.
