    Laptop requirements?

    Howdy,

Just ordered HPT today along with a PLX SM-AFR.

The product page specs a minimum laptop of 400 MHz, 128 MB Ram, and USB port...

What processor are we talking about here? I can potentially get a pIII laptop for free from work, and I'm wondering if that's ok for HPTuners.

On the USB port, does it need USB2.0 or will any USB port work?

I'll only be using the laptop for HPTuners. Any other software I'm going to want on it for tuning purposes?

    Thanks!

    Mark

You'll want Excel on there or the Open Office equivalent.
PIII 400 is going to be reeeaaaaaallllllll slow though...
Forget it if you plan on doing any cars 2006+
USB 1 or 2 is fine. Don't think you'll be pushing 11 MB/Sec data through the PCM...

I used a 450 MHz machine for a while, and it was dog slow. I bought a relatively cheap 1 GHz, and it is much, much nicer.

the editor aint so bad with a lower computer but the scanner uses alot of resources...if you buy the pro version & use the standalone datalogger mostly you'll be alright for a while I'd assume.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Id use a 700mhz laptop wich worked fairly ok if you dont mind the usual conection lost or dificulty in reading the DTC´s, also if youre scaning, youre ONLY scaning, you can NOT see the graphs or instruments in real time, if you playback it works OK,
for uploading and editing they are ok

yesterday I got a 2MGhs, 80gigs,new laptop with win vista (yuck) lets see how it punches!!!!
