    Help with a Pontiac G8

Hello everyone, thank you for letting me join. Novice here and I would not call myself a tuner just quite yet.

I started 2 years ago on my stock G8, modding the car slowly and trying to tune one thing at a time. Green as green can be to tuning, long time mechanic. Currently I am running LTH through glasspacks, CAI, DOD deleted with a 217/23X,.619/.607, 114 LSA cam.

Im chasing my tail since I installed the cam and have been using the narrowbands to tune the MAF and SD. I read the sticky on SD Tuning but without a wideband im confused on some things.

The procedure i have been following is to disable DFCO, force MAF by setting dynamic airflow to 40/39, COT is permanently disabled, and pulling 5 degrees from the high octane table. Using the long term trims from bank 1 and 2 average, I then copy and paste the trims from the graph I built in the scanner, to the MAF frequency table. Then I would Fail the MAF by setting frequency to 1/1, setting all three DTCs to first error, and raising dynamic airflow settings to 6000/5999, to do the same for VE.

I also increased the TPS delay for PE, and I have EQ ratio at 12.5:1 AFR in peak torque.

Now the car runs rich and seems to run worse with fuel trims farther out the more I try to adjust VE and MAF.

I am letting the ECU go into closed loop, and i am using the average of bank 1 and 2 long term fuel trims

Would i be correct to force open loop, and use the short term trims?

Post your unmodified version so someone can do a comparison.

Fuel trims look good. You need to add some to your BRAF. That's your base running airflow table. That will help your idle and coming to a stop.

Thank you, Ill bump up airflow final minimum a little more.

I think im onto where I have gone wrong having the car run rich, if I increased the TPS delay for PE, and added fuel in those areas because it was not going into PE, It will be rich if I return the TPS delay to normal. Factory settings had it getting into power enrichment with relatively little throttle.

Appreciate the input, I attached a stock fileStock Tune - Copy.hpt

If anyone out there would like to review the file and let me know how bad I am messing things up, or if I am on the right track. Sometimes I want to throw in the towel and pay for a remote tune, lot cheaper than a rebuild.

    Also attached trans file

    TIA

I am somewhat new to HP Tuners as well. But this by far has been the best way for me to dial in my min air flow spot on.

Its a bit of a procedure, but it works with good results.

I have tried other methods suggested on this site but they just did not work that great for me.

I'm sure others will chyme in on this one too.

You really need to work on tuning the VVE. It makes so many of the other issues you'll have go away. I'm sure there must be a write up on it somewhere. Try searching for it.

This isn't a complicated tune job but it might be a bit overwhelming to a new tuner.

Thank You, Ill check it out. I am trying to log idle desired airflow and match my table to those values

I had a chance to do some driving and sort a few things out THANK YOU ALL for your help so far

There was a cliff in the MAF curve, and I think stretching out the PE TPS delay and adding in that extra fuel, then putting the delay back at lower TPS was to blame.

The timing table got a little work too

I plan on installing the WB this weekend, and starting over on MAF and VE

    Attached updated file and log

    All the best
