LS 3 Connect and Cruise will not run with MAF connected

Helping a friend with a Gen IV LS3 Connect and Cruise install on a 65 GTO.
Engine will fire and run about 2 seconds and die.
You can unplug the MAF sensor and it will crank and idle fine.

Have changed the MAF twice, last one was Delphi brand.
Using a Spectre brand 4 inch intake.
MAF is 10 inches from throttle body.
Was told by GM that the Spectre filter was causing an air Vortex and we needed to install an air straightener which we did with no change.
GM later suggested we use a GM stock filter which we tried with no change.
I do have some photos if I can figure out the upload procedure here.

Would appreciate any suggestions on a direction to take to figure out what is causing this.

    thanks

Need to post the cal file and a data log. Picture of the location of the MAF sensor would be great too. They always need to be calibrated in any swap vehicle but it's hard to believe location would make it not start or run. Try plugging the maf in while it's running see what happens.

You did make sure the MAF is inserted correctly? Arrow on it pointed in direction of airflow? Opening to incoming airflow?

^^^ Great point. Could be in backwards and that would do it.

It might be best to go to speed density. The MAF weld in bung etc.. has all sorts of potential for problems. If it's too close to a bend, if the radiator fan blows on the filter, etc. Even how it's clocked makes a huge difference in how it reads.

Not all the different ways people have them mounted can be fixed with tuning.

GM would have been much better off leaving those kits in SD.
