I have a 2005 GTO here that possibly has an ECU issue. Car is going into limp mode for a voltage correlation P2135. Replaced the throttle body, tb pig tail and pedal and no change. If I buy a used E40 from ebay or a junkyard, can I program the vin with HP and make it work?
I've heard you need special software to add the vin. Or can I just do a "write entire" into the new ecu and run it?

I didn't think so. Someone was trying to tell me otherwise so I thought I would check. What is needed to rewrite the vin? Can you change platforms with HP, from a Corvette to a Gto or a TBSS?
You can do that on Gen3, but not Gen4. There are 8 segments in the Gen4 ECM but a .hpt file only reads/writes 6 of them (it does not touch the electronic throttle segments, which are different from platform to platform).
You have to use SPS. Get a subscription from the AC Delco site and use a j2534 pass through device to program. Now I personally wish you could just use a hpt interface and program that way using SPS. That would be so much easier
