I suspect false knock, how can I tell?

    2017 chevy express 4.8L L20 basically stock

I'm new, but I'm trying to learn. This was all to disable VVT because the EGR function of it was crippling midrange.

I'm getting closer on timing, but I keep getting knock indicated. I've got other revisions where there i have pulled a LOT of timing and power is way down and there's still knock indicated.

I've disabled burst knock. There may be some knock occurring during throttle transients which should disappear when burst knock is reenabled.

I suspect the steady state knock events are bumps in the road and rattles inside the van. How can I determine what is false and what is real?

    Thanks

Add real octane booster and see if it goes away?

Of course. It sounds so obvious when you say it.
