Throttle body craziness on cold starts

2010 LS3 E38 Camaro (build details in signature below). I have a 112mm Nick Williams throttle body on it. I noticed that during a full cold start (been sitting overnight) it starts and seems to idle ok. But the second I try and take off?the car has been bogging down and throttle flaring and then stalling out. I then go to restart it, and it starts really hard, and then there is all sorts of clicking and clanging coming from the throttle body. Like it?s trying to find ?home? or it?s range settings.

That then translates into an almost impossible situation to actually drive off with?because the throttle blade seems to be hunting and it keeps throwing the car in and out of boost. After about 2 miles and the car warmed up a bit more?it seems to go away. Then hot starts?no problem at all.

Is there a throttle learn setting that needs to be looked at? Car was tuned by a professional and well known tuner here. But having a hard time catching him via phone. I may eventually get to him?but thought I?d try here to see if there is something obvious to look at.

I'm assuming the throttle tables weren't tuned as most ignore them, but even so you might want to give Nick a call and let him know what it's doing. Sounds like somethings up with it.

I actually had that exact same thing happen to my NW103 tb. Mine was clicking very bad after driving it for about 10-15 min, idle was oscillating all over the place and just ran like shit. It turns out it was the TPS sensor that is bolted to the side of it. He was using an aftermarket one and right around the time I purchased mine he was having multiple issues with them. Went back to the OEM TPS and haven't had a problem since (been about 2 years now)

It's possible it's just not setup right in the calibration. Especially since it straightens out with temp. Impossible to say for sure without seeing the calibration. Tune and data log would help greatly. Otherwise everyone is just guessing. I hate guessing.

These new TBs are almost a drop in and go thing from NW.

I've had issues with a early version and the TPS sensor. This sounds like a TB issue.. Call Scoggin Dickey. I'm sure they can handle a repair/replace.

Ok. So update here. I did email NW (that website in the post above is indeed the right place). They got back to me within 1 hour and said that it needs to come in for warranty repair work…and that they could get it back to me within 2 days.. So they must know what it is.

I also got in touch with my tuner. He offered to have me bring it in and datalog it and see what’s going on. But the response from NW leads me to believe they know something is off and what it is. So I’m going to send it in there first. Can then bring it back to the tuner if needed.

Damnit. Right when the cool fall air is here for my supercharger to ingest!! This hobby can be frustrating. Oh well. Hopefully I can get it back quickly.

I'm willing to bet it's the TPS...let us know when you get it back

I'm pretty sure in all the 112s all the electronics are integrated. I don't think he'd ever know if it's just the TPS.

Might also want to get your tuner to lower the tps errors back down. Sounds like they might be way up if who I'm thinking tuned it, actually tuned it. It should shut the throttle down acting like that. Make sure Nick knows it's for a PD blower too. May require motor upgrading, but almost 100% sure he's putting the same upgraded motor in all of them now. Haven't talked to him in years one on one to know. Mostly going by what my customers are telling me who talk to him.

You're doing what's right. Send it in for repair then get the tune fixed right.

Just wanted to post a follow up and final conclusion to this thread I started. Sent the TB into Nick Williams and got back?all fixed. Must have been something with the TB. But I have to give NW some credit. Super fast turnaround in the warranty repair and the communication with them. Stand up organization.

Anyway?all good. Just thought I?d post the final outcome in case anyone ever runs into this thread via a search and has similar things they are trying to figure out.
