    NA to Boost Tuning on Gen V's with Background Tables

    Alright guys, so I've been talking about posting this for a little while now and had a few people PM me for more information. Anyway, I finally got the chance to finish the write up after working on and off of it time permitting for awhile. This does primarily cover how to set up a PD blowers on a truck, but there is information as to how to modify the tables for a car as well and what certain tables actually do or rather control in the calibrations themselves. It is long winded, so I do apologize for that, but figured the more detail the better. All boosted setups benefit from having at least one if not both of these tables changed even if they're a blow through turbo or centri setup. There are also several other background tables that I didn't touch on that you should be able to find on Will's website or just ask Will for them if you know what they are. There is one table I didn't mention in the write up pertaining to boost and more importantly when installing the sciap and activating the second pressure tab that's required for the sciap to actually work like it's supposed to. It's a smoothing table that's required to keep baro codes from setting and to make the sciap read more smoothly for better averaged data. I did show how to change the baro settings already in the calibration to aid with this - just not the one smoothing table.

    Now I know a lot of you are going to come in here and go oh, mine didn't need all of this. Well simply put not every OS acts the same and has the same background tables to throw things incredibly out of whack. Up until the last 3 trucks I've worked on with big blowers I didn't even require changing the tables, but now that I know about them I'm changing one in particular even on the cam builds. I think everyone can agree that they've never truly had full throttle control and by that I mean hold 60 to 70 % throttle with boost and it not fly open - at least until now I've even got some big built LT4's that I've modified these tables on for better throttle and idle control, just to give you an idea. Basically what these tables will give you is a responsive precise control of the throttle on the engine just like a factory boosted car has. Just going to take you a while working them so they all work together. You're also going to have to get out of your head on modifying the DD tables for "perkiness". DD is the final limiter and should be used as such. DD will greatly change with these tables being modified as well so keep in mind it's going to require modding all the way to the idle cells in some cases. I suggest creating a math formula for logging throttle error vs pedal and using that to dial in the DD from a minimum 12% position on up.

    Thank You, All of the credit belongs to Will for finding all of these tables. I was just the one bugging and pushing Will to find them and then playing with them to find out how to utilize them. Took a month to figure out the pedal progression and throttle rate had to be adjusted together as they work hand in hand with the driver demand tables I did just swap out the write up for a revision that includes the part where if you have cars, you must have the linear and offset tables added in too for the sciap so if you saved it or whatever you might want to grab the latest.

    I'm having the pedal progression table added into all of the tunes I'm doing going forward along with some other special tables Don't think there's anyway around all of it's benefits.

    I don't mean to mud up this post. But I finally go around to installing the SCIAP harness along with "IAT2". I'm having a little trouble deciding how to deal with the MAP wires pins 4 and 5, removed from X1 and installed into X2. There's very little room to work with since the wires a so short. I dread having to remove either connector in the future since they will be basically tied together. How did you guy deal with this? Should I lengthen them?

    Also, great write up Greg. Much appreciated addition for the community.

    I would just lengthen them since they're just map sensor wires and not being compared in detail to anything else other than baro. Just make sure to solder and try to use fine stranded wires for better signal carry. GXL under hood wires for heat would be best.

    I would agree, I just wasn't sure if I was missing something lol. I had to walk away from it before I made a bad decision. I have some spare wire I can use that will do the trick and I definitely will be soldering and using flux. I cringe when I don't see shiny solder lol. Thank you sir, hopefully I can finish it up tomorrow.
