Ford Explorer 4.6l 3V 2006 VCT tune
Hello. I am looking at VCT tables :
vct1.PNG
vct 2.PNG
VCT SPARK.PNG
There are a lot of cam retards at low RPM and low loads. I know that behavior is due to lack of EGR. Spark advances in these areas are also noticeable. I was thinking about setting 0 angle of retard to 4000 RPM and next adjust spark advance in that area. I know that without "EGR" I will not be able to advance as much as before.
What do you think about that? I think it should increase throttle response.
Has someone tested that setting before?
Best regards.

I have been curious about this myself but i dont think i would make drastic changes.
Looking at a 2010 mustang factory tune as a baseline, the vct angles are similar or within expected ranges considering the intakes are a little different.
But the spark angle correction is quite a bit different & the 0.1 and 0.2 load rows are definitely weird
I would probably start by adjusting just those two rows and logging to verify the spark changes as expected
