    Operating OS's 1250216 & 1250219 compatibility

I'm trying to diagnose a vehicle for a friend that has a possible bad ecm. I would like to overwrite a 1250216 OS with a 1250219 OS without bricking it are these close enough to be able to use?

I really wish I would have put "Operating" OS's lol

If I had to take a random guess the answer is no.

IMHO never safe to overwrite a different OS in a GEN 4 unless its a custom OS from hptuners for the original OS.

About once every two weeks we see someone bricking something trying to do this.

I'm with Alvin on this. Only OS "upgrading" should be done with SPS unless you're absolutely sure, or don't care if you brick one just trying it.

    "without bricking it".
No such thing. You take a risk every single time you program. Something can always go wrong. Battery voltage, laptop, another module happens to communicate during the write process. Lot's of stuff. Always communicate to a customer that bricking can occur.

maybe i'm missing something but sounds like the ecm may already have a problem - once this is the last resort is it such a bad thing if it does cause it to brick?

it would be as useful as a brick at that point.

Why not use the right tools to diagnose? If you haven't got 'em, buy 'em. They're cheaper than a visit to the Snap-On truck on payday.

True knowing the problem is always better than guessing and i've never been one to say no to a new tool.

What is changing the OS going to prove about a possible bad ECM anyway?
