    Best tuning strategy for T56 into 2005 4.8 4L60 GMT800

Engine will be LQ4 6.0 with 243's, 220R from texas speed, stock intake and throttle body, 8.1 injectors. LS7 clutch, T56 Magnum.

I downloaded the following tunes and examined them with HPT editor:

    2005 4.8 4L60E OS 12592618, , P59 ECM GM Gen3 V8, 4.3L V6 (I have not grabbed my tune from my ECM yet, will confirm it's running OS 618 shortly.)
    2004 4.8 5 speed manual OS 12587603, P59 ECM GM Gen3 V8, 4.3L V6.
    2005 4.3 (v6,) 5 speed manual OS 12592618, , P59 ECM GM Gen3 V8, 4.3L V6.
    2005 6.0 Silverado SS, OS 12592618, P59 ECM GM Gen3 V8, 4.3L V6.

I looked for other combinations (SSR for instance,) nothing seems to work with engine generation/ECM, and there's of course nothing with a 6MT. Looking in the software, I do not see an area where you input transmission gear ratios. I do not, of course, plan on using CAGS, and I do not need the reverse lockout functionality. I'm mostly concerned with wild drivability faults/codes/engine behavior etc. from the automatic being gone. Perhaps the following is not even necessary if I painstakingly turn off a lot of codes/make modifications.

Anyway, based on reading some old posts here, I've come up with the following strategies:

Option a) overwrite my factory tune with a different OS, the 4.8 5 speed manual 603, provided the ECM is compatible. I'm not sure how to determine this. Since the vehicle and tune differ, I will need a license. I have 2x credits as provided with my new MPVI3.

Option b) segment swap the transmission segment from the 4.3 file to the file I get from my truck.

In both instances it seems reasonable to move the Silverado SS engine segment into my stock tune as a slightly better starting point than the 4.8, then change the injector-related information to start.

I'm going to spend the next few months reading posts and learning more about tuning, I've watched a lot of "goat rope garage" videos/others and have a methodical mindset. Thanks in advance for help with these basic questions.

TTT - I'm in the same boat. 896 ECM with P01, T56 swap. Would love to see some feedback on this. Issues with return to idle due to throttle cracker/follower and no rolling idle section.

You shouldn't need a different OS or segment swap on a Gen3. Gen4 is a different story. Gen3, just disable all the auto trans stuff.

If you look at two files of the same year/same platform that differ only by auto/manual, they're the same filesize. That's a hint that there's only differences in the settings and not in major sections of code.

@blindsquirrel: Yep, I let this thread die and did a ton of reading instead. I'm going to start a new collector thread for my future questions once I actually start tuning, that's a ways off. Heads are at the machine shop right now. Thanks for the help and all your help around here.

Aggie, for idle/etc. I am studying the manual trans tunes (4.8/5speed, Camaro T56,) and seeing what values they hold. Just as with the VE tables/spark/etc. - comparing the 4.8 values I have to the closest vehicles in year/pcm/etc... with the engine I'm using. Silverado SS/etc.
