We use plex and the knock box, the knock box is pretty damn good and shows up other devices well over the 1000 dollar mark.

i found having a decent high amp (16amp) charger connected up (boosting voltage to 14.4) the read write fails are nearly non existent.

i suppose it depends on what your customers engines are worth.... i use mine on every car bar the basic hptuners stuff on holdens, 2 cars a day (small tuning only shop) on average @ $650 -950 a tune...

I use this one, made here in melb and is as good as my knock box. Full laptop datalogging or scanning (hpt talk)
