Quick question, my ect on dash is reading 20-30 degrees higher than what HPT is. I have seen mention that this is normal? Car is a 2002 Grand Prix GT.

Never trust a grand prix gauge to a point.
The first big line is like 160º on the dash, but in reality it's barely above 130ish, once it hits the second big line that is roughly 195-200º. Then it goes to 210 and then red zone at like 230+.
I've been around these cars for several years, that second big line is where the car wants to be temp wise on the dash.

I remember learning the manufacturers altered the read out to reduce the number of service requests for overheating, when in fact it wasn't truly overheating, just running hot.
Yours reading hotter, idk why. Crappy gauges I guess.
Some reports show the engine runs more economically at higher temps. Just not too hot.
