I see that guys are saying that the Maf can affect the A6 trans and how it performs. Is this true? Also why is it that turners are adjusting the first 1/3 section of the Low Maf settings and adjusting the last 1/3 of the High Maf setting but they are leaving the middle section of the maf alone. Also, if a Maf is setup not to hit 511 but instead is setup to hit 490 on the Maf Hi settings, what does this do?

Changing the MAF will alter the airflow & spark commanded so by default, if you are increasing the airflow you should be making more torque. If the airflow is reduced so is torque. So it stands to reason that if the car is really consuming more air and making more torque the A6 trans should know so that it can apply & release the clutches correctly.
and if they are only messing with the high and low and not the middle..then they are either missing something or not doing a complete job
Like these guys said; the A6 is a torque based calculated trans. It uses the MAF load to calculate estimated torque. If airflow is increased so does torque (as Doug stated). This is why we don't just do a trans tune but also tie it into the engine calibrating as well.
If you do any significant changes to the MAF transfer function (Ford terminology) you often need to allow for this in the trans files (ie....injector scaling...)
