Ups and Down sides of removing TQ Management

You always hear that you want to either remove or reduce your TQ Man so the PCM won't pull timing during shifts. By doing so, you have more consistant power during your 1/4 mile run.

I've read something recently about if you remove it completely or remove to much, that you can have shift problems, as in not shifting when you tell it to in the PCM.

For example, for the average A4 car, you have heads, cam, 3200 stall, 3.42 or 3.73 gear, what would you guys recommend?

In the past I usually cut it by 50% and haven't had any noticeable problems but I have to work out some shift issues with a 383 A4 Camaro that I tuned before, doesn't seem to want to shift when I tell it to.

What do you guys remove?

I have a stock A4 2004 Commoodre tuned mafless with 2500 stall and 3.91 gears. I removed all TQ reduction. The only issue I have had with shifts was when I didn't match the commanded shift tables for rpm and mph. I would hit the rev limiter. No problems since.

You could blow the trans either way.

I once tuned on a performance truck and thought it might
help him, to apply some torque limiting through the shifts.

Thing is, un-limited he used to spin all four tires straight
across the 1-2. Once I cut torque, the tires got to stick,
give more back-torque after the torque-cut went away
and this shortly bent the sprag right over; he was better
off un-"managed".

I have run it all killed, all stock and "softly managed" and
never run into a trans shifting problem -except- the time
I tried to mess arounf the profile of torque reduction vs
torque to attempt a constant-torque profile; then I got
some situations where, at high part throttle, it would hang
and not shift out until pedal release - mostly about throttle
"flutter" events in street driving. So I now leave that table
with its stockish profile (other than applying the 2-3 line
to the 3-4 as well) and work on the spark end, reducing
the amount taken out.

I expect there is some mysterious stuff goes on and needs
to be avoided, haven't seen any deep explanation for the
stuff I encountered, had to back out of that one on my
own.

So basically just cut the TM tables by say 50% and all should be good.

it varies per vehicle per mods per driver preferance...
but removing TQ management can put a lot of wear and tear on the tranny...

so just be cautious about how much you do remove
